Version 1.0. At last!

So the weeks became months but, finally I had the time to resume the project. Besides the removal of the note below, what have changed in version 1.0?

No more mice nudity

For my illustrations, I use to work in 3D and sometimes I borrow free-to-use models. The mice used in the tree illustration where naked and didn't match with the usual Mausritter art out there. The 3D software I use (Blender) is capable of generating outlines out of 3D models and then modify them in ways they look more "hand-drawn". The cool thing is that you can also draw freely on the 3D space and on top of the models. So I could draw some trousers and sweaters keeping the same line style as the rest of the picture.

Project page art and pictures

Until now, the itch's project page was plain (and boring). Although I took some pictures of the actual calendar months ago, I didn't post them until now that I have the final product. As I like to do with all my itch projects, I put some animation on the banner (as you can see in the top of this very page) and on the cover image again relying on Blender for the task.

But the big change is the catalog:

The catalog is now a zine!

Published as a placeholder and for the information about the magic sword, spells and some other special items; the catalog's v0.5 was a 5 pages-long A4-format document I published as a bare minimum for using Advent Calendar on the table. After including pictures of all items, a description of them and the instructions for building the calendar; the catalog is now a 12-pages zine. As it is my first zine ever I could try things out like making an index, and use master pages for header and footers.

New cover

The catalog now comes with a brand new cover —v0.5 was the Christmas tree illustration and it felt too repetitive. Also, this version is more balanced for a cover. I did use the tree illustration for the back cover, though (having a back cover was a first too).

Revised picking system

The third system for how to pick the presents from the calendar was a little cumbersome. Now the items "value" are similar to the treasures tables on Mausritter's manual (magic swords being first, spells second, etc) and the system is a d20 roll under against the present's number. So it's more simple and matches Mausritter's save rolls system too.

Building instructions

As another note on v0.5 stated, the definitive version of the catalog would come with illustrated instructions for building the calendar. Although setting the 3D scene, bringing the sheets and "cutting"and "folding" them in their different states is kind of a hassle, I love the result of these kind of pictures since the ones I did for Perez's Assignment.

So that's all for this update! I would love to draw again some of the items but I'm still the same bad illustrator from before. So expect nothing but typos and error fixes in the coming versions, if any. Thanks for reading!
